There are several primary characteristics to look for when determining what the best heavy bag gloves are for you.

Good boxing bag gloves should be easy to pull on and take off, so that precious minutes of your workout aren’t being wasted getting yourself ready. Gloves that are easy to slip on or pull off is also a good indication that your punching bag gloves are the right size and not too tight. If you struggle to put them on, this may mean that your heavy bag gloves are too small. Having the correct size is very important because this allows you to make a proper fully closed fist, which helps prevent injury to your knuckles.

The best punching bag gloves will also contain either infused foam or multi-layered foam padding.

Infused foam consists of a single, open cell foam that is softer than most materials and easier on your hands.

If your gloves are constructed of a multi-layer padding, the foam closest to your fist should still be softer than the outer layers, so that it contours around your fist better to provide a more shock-absorbing cushion.

In either case, the foam should provide a comfortable, impact resistant layer between your fist and the bag, so that you are connecting with each punch as safely as possible.

Another important feature of your punching bag gloves is to be sure that the wrist portion provides added support, either with extra padding or a firm wrap-around closure that fits snug.

One of the most common injures in boxing is to a fighter’s hands and the most common hand injuries are almost always in relation to sore knuckles or sprained wrists. When you choose your heavy bag gloves carefully, the chance of avoiding any unwanted aches or pains is greatly reduced.

FAQs

This is somewhat up to the user and what they feel comfortable with. We would recommend using a lighter glove for speed and a heavier glove for building power. Additionally, we do have a recommendations on each glove page for fit and sizing but you can also find size chart here TITLE Boxing Size Charts.

We recommend using a training or sparring glove as they typically have more padding over the knuckle and usually have lace or inset Velcro straps and no exposed metal d-ring for safety. This provides a little more protection for your sparring partner and for your hands.

We recommend a glove with less bulk, great wrist support, and a well-shaped pre-curve.
