Although look, style, and personal preference all play a big part in choosing a specific punching bag, heavy bag, double end bag, or boxing speed bag, the way it is going to be used is just as important. The type of space and how and where the bag will be hung in will dictate the type of bag you choose.

Home gyms, as well as commercial boxing gyms all have a wide range of requirements, limitations, and unique options of their town. For example, most home gyms don’t have the necessary space needed for a heavy bag with a stand, but can accommodate a free standing punching bag or have a corner of a room in which to mount a traditional top hanging heavy bag. There are even some commercial gyms that are renting their space and are not allowed to mount any of their punching bags to the ceiling or wall. In that case, the gym can choose between a heavy bag with a stand or use a free standing punching bag in place of a more common bag mounting option.

In the case of using a heavy bag with a stand, you still get a more traditional experience of the heavy bag swinging from above. Otherwise, with any type of free standing punching bag, the swinging motion comes from the floor or the bottom of the bag. That doesn’t negatively effect the way the bag performs in terms of striking, but it does provide a slightly different feel because the movement isn’t the same. If you don’t have any mounting limitations, the decision does come down to which bag you like the feel, or look of, the most.

In any case, space should always be a consideration and should factor in to choosing a bag that best fits your situation. How much room you have can give you the freedom you need to move and develop your own boxing style, uninhibited by your surroundings.

FAQs

No, you would need to assemble the platform when it arrives, but we include assembly instructions with each item.

Our synthetic bags are very durable as are our leather bags. Both are good options, and we recommend both. If you prefer more of a traditional old school feel you might want to consider the leather options. If you don’t care and just need something functional, our synthetic bags are also a good option.

Slipping bags have been around for a long time and we highly recommend it as it helps improve your offensive and defensive head movement. This bag can be used with or without moving your feet. Practicing head movement in training will make it easier and more natural during competition.

Heavy Bag attachments are great for providing extra attention and focus on a target area giving the fighter a more realistic target to throw punches at or avoid using defensive head and lateral movements.
